HOLY MONDAY
THE COLLECT
Almighty God, who spared not Yourself from human suffering and frailty mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of Your Son, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Pastor: Dear friends, the Gospel of Christ moves us to acknowledge and confess our sin and rebelliousness; and that we should neither dissemble nor cloak them before the face of Almighty God; but confess them with an humble, lowly, penitent, and obedient heart; to the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by His infinite goodness and mercy. And while we ought, at all times, to acknowledge our sins before God; how much more ought we to acknowledge and confess when we assemble and meet together to give thanks for the great benefits that we have received at His hands, to set forth His most worthy praise, and to hear His most Holy Word! I pray and encourage you to accompany me with a pure heart, and humble voice, unto the throne of the heavenly grace, saying:
Leader: Lord, I have betrayed you
By following my own way.
All: I have denied you
By fearing to follow yours.
Leader: I have mocked you
By not taking your death seriously.
All: Lord, I am lost.
Let your forgiveness find me.
Leader: Hold me in your strong arms
And give me your new life.
All: Live in me and with me day by day,
That together we may make a world
where all is made new.
THE WONDERFUL CROSS
Verse 1
When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of Glory died
My richest gain I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride
Verse 2
See from His head His hands His feet
Sorrow and love flow mingled down
Did e'er such love and sorrow meet
Or thorns compose so rich a crown
Chorus 1
O the wonderful cross
O the wonderful cross
Bids me come and die and find
That I may truly live
O the wonderful cross
O the wonderful cross
All who gather here by grace
Draw near and bless Your name
Verse 3
Were the whole realm of nature mine
That were an offering far too small
Love so amazing so divine
Demands my soul my life my all
Chorus 1
O the wonderful cross
O the wonderful cross
Bids me come and die and find
That I may truly live
O the wonderful cross
O the wonderful cross
All who gather here by grace
Draw near and bless Your name

THE DECLARATION OF ABSOLUTION
May the almighty and merciful God, who desires not the death of a sinner but that we turn from wickedness and live, accept your repentance, forgive your sins, and restore you by the Holy Spirit to newness of life.” Amen.
the lord's prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Pastor: O Lord, open our lips.
Answer: And our mouth will bring forth you praise.
Pastor: Glory be to God the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost.
Answer: As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen
Pastor: Praise be to God!
Answer: The Lord’s name be praised.
Old Testament Lesson - Isaiah 42:1-9
God said that His Servant would come and set everything right. God makes us alive with His own life; the life of His only Son Jesus Christ. Jesus took our place. He bore the pain of our sin. He wore our crown.
Psalter – Psalm 36:5-11
affirmation of faith
the pistevo
(symbol of faith)
We believe in one God,
the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ ,
the only-begotten Son of God,
begotten of the Father
before all worlds,
Light of Light, very God of very God,
begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father;
by whom all things were made;
who for us men, and for our salvation,
came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary,
and was made man;
he was crucified for us
under Pontius Pilate,
and suffered, and was buried,
and the third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures,
and ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of the Father;
from thence he shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead;
and his kingdom shall have no end.
And in the Holy Ghost,
the Lord and Giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father
and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified,
who spake by the prophets.
We believe in the one holy catholic
and apostolic Church;
we acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins;
we look for the resurrection
of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Gospel - Mark 11:12-21 NRSV
THE GENERAL THANKSGIVING
O Holy One, we call to you and name you as eternal, ever-present, and boundless in love. Yet there are times, O God, when we fail to recognize you in the hurried frenzy of our daily lives. Sometimes shame clenches tightly around our hearts, and we hide our true feelings. Sometimes fear makes us small, and we miss the chance to speak from our strength. Sometimes doubt invades our hopefulness, and we degrade the wisdom you have given us.
Holy God, in the daily round from sunrise to sunset, remind us again of your holy presence hovering near us and in us. Free us from shame and self-doubt. Help us to see you in the moment-by-moment possibilities to live honestly, to act courageously, and to speak from your wisdom.
Amen.

Prayer sustaining us,
Faith will carry us through.
His service calling us,
None appalling us,
Deeds of valor we'll do;
For souls are needing us,
Christ is leading us;
Church, we will be true.
Amen.
